30th to 31st March 2012: Two-day training program on Communication and Behaviour Management, at Bala Sikhsha Sahayata, a school for Autistic Children, run by TVS group under the management of Lakshmi Vidya Sangham, Madurai.

Awareness lecture on Autism to Self Help Group of Mugalivakkam at St. Joseph’s School, Porur, Chennai. The lecture was in Tamil followed by interactive session with women of the Self Help (Makalir) Group who were sensitized to distinguishing early signs of autism in children.

27th Feb to 2nd March 2012: Five-day Orientation for parents and teachers of children with autism of Little Angel’s Early Intervention Centre, St. Thomas Mount, Chennai. All aspects of autism; awareness, nature and needs, communication, play stimulation and behavior management was covered.

One Week Summer Camp on Environment Studies (15 to 21 May) for underprivileged children from Burma Colony. 25-30 children attended the camp, ages ranging from 5 to 13. As part of the program they participated in a ‘tree walk’ supervised by staff from NIZHAL.

Organized painting competition at Sankalp Special School, Anna Nagar, Chennai.  Nine prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners.

Organized and sponsored home tuition for Sri Manikantan, a visually impaired boy. Manikantan a student 12th Standard of Blind School, Poonamallee, had failed in Economics (Tamil). Sri Muruganandam of MRG Coaching College was engaged for the coaching the boy so that he could appear in the exam in October 2011.

Mythily Chari made a presentation on “Social Model for Rehabilitation” at the International Seminar on Inclusive Practices for Students with Special Needs” Learn 2010, Chennai. The event was organized by SANKALP Open School and Learning Centre. Awareness posters were distributed. More than 200 delegates participated in the Seminar.

Printing of Awareness Posters . The poster orients a lay person to Autism in a 10 question format. 2500 posters were printed for distribution.
